Lumber Ridge, NC – West Bladen’s golf team turned in a strong performance Tuesday afternoon, earning a second-place finish in a Southeastern Athletic Conference (SAC 6) match at Scotthurst Golf Club.
The Knights posted a team score of 356, placing them just behind Midway’s impressive 317. Clinton followed in third at 363, with Fairmont, Red Springs, and Saint Pauls rounding out the field.
Leading the way for the Knights was sophomore Seth Faircloth, who put together a steady round of 81 to finish third overall among all competitors.
Faircloth’s composure on the course continues to stand out, as he consistently finds fairways and keeps himself in scoring position. His short game, in particular, was a difference-maker at Scotthurst.
Senior Nolan Sessoms followed closely with an 88, earning a top-10 finish at ninth overall. Sessoms’ experience showed throughout the round, especially in his ability to navigate the course’s tougher holes and avoid big numbers. His leadership remains a steadying force for West Bladen.
Freshman Jonathan Gooden continues to impress in his debut season. He carded a 93, good for 14th overall.
Junior Gavin Smith added a 94 to the team total, placing 18th overall. Rounding out the Knights’ scorecard was sophomore Evan Melvin, who shot a 106 and placed 20th.
The Knights will return to action on April 7th when they tee it up at Timberlake Golf Club, also in Clinton.
