Cerro Gordo, NC - The East Bladen Lady Eagles continued their midseason surge Monday night, picking up a convincing 10-1 road win over West Columbus.
With the victory, East Bladen improves to 5-5 overall and 4-4 in the Waccamaw 1A/2A Conference. The win also marks their fourth straight, as the Eagles look to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
From the first inning, East Bladen set the tone. Martha Simmons led the charge offensively, showcasing consistency at the plate with two hits and driving in a run. She also crossed home plate twice, helping East Bladen jump out to an early lead and never look back.
Niyah Wooten played a steady hand in the lineup, reaching base multiple times and contributing in multiple ways—scoring once, knocking a hit, and tallying both an RBI and a walk. Her presence on the basepaths added pressure to the Viking defense throughout the game.
Tatum Allen continued to show her disciplined eye at the plate, working two walks and picking up an RBI in the process. Jenna Brice delivered in a clutch moment, coming through with a key hit that brought in two runs, further padding East Bladen’s lead during their five-run second inning.
Gracie Edwards had a strong all-around performance, both in the circle and at the plate. She scored a run and drew a walk offensively, but her biggest impact came on the mound.
Pitching all seven innings, Edwards scattered six hits, allowed just one run, and struck out six Viking batters. Her command and poise played a huge role in keeping West Columbus off the scoreboard for most of the night.
Taylor Dowless brought the spark East Bladen needed at the top of the order. She crossed home plate three times, adding two hits to her stat line and constantly applying pressure with her speed and hustle.
Gabriella Bray provided power in the heart of the lineup. She collected two hits, drove in two runs, and scored twice, continuing her streak as one of East Bladen’s most reliable run producers.
Also contributing to the Eagles’ offensive output were Gracie Clark, who tallied a hit, a walk, and scored once, and Mollie Tolar, Zoie Durden, and Addison Douglas, who each took trips to the plate and helped maintain East Bladen’s depth throughout the game.
East Bladen's offense was balanced and aggressive, scoring in four of the five innings they batted. A one-run first inning quickly turned into a five-run explosion in the second. They added another run in the third and capped off the night with three more in the fifth.
With the playoffs looming and every game holding weight in the RPI rankings, East Bladen’s recent string of victories shows they’re peaking at the right time.
Next up, the Lady Eagles will look to keep the win streak alive and continue their charge up the conference standings as they host West Columbus Thursday.
