Elizabethtown, NC - East Bladen’s JV baseball team faced a tough challenge on Wednesday night, falling to Whiteville 12-2 in Waccamaw Conference play.
Despite the final score, the Eagles showed flashes of promise on both sides of the ball.
Cade Rogers got the start on the mound and pitched through four innings, battling against a Whiteville lineup that found ways to generate consistent offense.
Mason Smith came in to relieve in the fifth, stepping into a tough situation with composure.
At the plate, J.D. McArthur provided a bright spot with a sharply hit double and eventually came around to score, helping get East Bladen on the board.
Jaxon Hair also made an impact, reaching base on an error and scoring a run later in the inning.
Brice Scott delivered a solid at-bat, connecting for a single to help move the offense.
Cade Rogers and Chandler Wall each had a pair of trips to the plate, with Rogers reaching base after putting the ball in play and forcing an error.
Ryne Priest and Omar Powell both had opportunities at the plate but couldn’t find much against Whiteville’s pitching, which kept the Eagles largely in check throughout the night.
Fox Sutton and Tyler Griffen rounded out the lineup, continuing to bring energy and effort to a team that’s continuing to grow with each outing.
Though the scoreboard didn’t tilt in their favor, the Eagles continued to gain valuable experience against a strong conference opponent.
They'll look to bounce back and build off the lessons from this road test as the season continues.
