The leaves are falling, the air is getting crisper, and playoff football and soccer have arrived in Bladen County. After a season of hard-fought battles, some of our local teams are gearing up for postseason runs that could create some unforgettable memories.

East Bladen’s response to adversity has been nothing short of spectacular. After dropping two heartbreaking one-possession games by a combined five points earlier this month, the Eagles have absolutely steamrolled their last three opponents, outscoring them 114-6 over a three-week span that included road wins at East Columbus (44-6) and Union (38-0), plus a statement home victory over previously undefeated in conference Lakewood (32-0).

The East Bladen Lady Eagles completed an outstanding season with a 16-2-2 record and earned recognition as one of the nation’s top high school soccer programs.

There was an edge to East Bladen’s play, a hunger that showed in every tackle, every run, every pass. And by the time the final whistle blew on a 7-0 dismantling of Lakewood, it was clear the Eagles had made a statement.
